A short story about ME
I’ve been making things out of paper since I was little. Now? Still making art from paper and a whole lot of other stuff. My art centers around mixed media, with my signature pieces built from torn and layered papers, then embellished with markers, paint, and colored pencils. My whimsical houses are my anchor, vibrant with color, tiny touches of detail, layered with soul. Repurposing my Frida Kahlo calendars, I created a collection of inspiring messages, expressive in a way that feels personal and healing.
As an emerging mixed media artist, I make whimsical art. With no formal art education, I create through experimenting and watching other artists. In 2023 in my mid-fifties, I took a leap of faith and began my art business. I take inspiration from my neighborhood, along with always feeling weird and feeling like I didn’t belong as a kid. Today I own that weirdness to create art with a message of “I may be weird but I am…worthy, authentic, resilient…” When not working as a legal administrative assistant, I may be found in my art room of my 1879 Bay View cream city brick home creating new pieces of art or funky clothing.
I’m dreaming bigger these days, like having my art featured in magazines, seeing my pieces, prints, and cards in small boutique shops, teaching classes, and building a wholesale path that helps my work travel farther than I ever could on my own. If any part of my work speaks to you or sparks an idea, I’d love to connect over email.
